Get Moving This Boxing Day

Discover the best ways to blow out the cobwebs and get active this boxing day.

Merry Christmas! I hope you had a fantastic time yesterday, whether you enjoyed a fun-packed day with loved ones or a restful day at home. Now that the big day is all wrapped up, I’m betting that you’re feeling more than a little drained. Lots of rich food and a full day inside can often leave you feeling like you want to retire to the couch for a week! But that’s the wrong thing to do. The best way to beat the bloat and boost your energy levels is to get moving! Getting your heart pumping is one of the quickest and easiest ways to overcome the Christmas slump. Check out some of my favourite ideas for an active Boxing Day, below.

Enjoy a Festive Walk

For many families, it’s a  well-loved tradition to get out for a walk on Boxing Day, and, if it isn’t in your family, why not make it one this year? If you fancy getting out into nature, the National Trust has some great recommendations for festive walks, while even a walk around the block will do wonders for how you feel. Wrap up and get out to drive away that Xmas fuzziness.

Challenge Family and Friends to an Active Game

Playing a game with the family doesn’t have to mean sitting around the table and chowing down on leftover chocolate. There are a huge number of motion-sensor video games that allow you to work up a sweat while completing virtual challenges – from dance games to VR snowboarding and fitness challenges. If traditional games are more your thing, Twister or musical chairs will get your family moving!

Get Ahead of the Crowds at The Gym

Although most gyms around the country are closed on Christmas Day, many open their doors again on Boxing Day. And the good news is, many of them are almost deserted on the day after the big day. This means you can enjoy a peaceful workout, get a head start on those resolutions, and maybe try out a new workout routine.

Do an Energy Boosting Home Workout

If the thought of stepping outside your front door to exercise on Boxing Day is all a bit too much, why not try an at-home workout? You don’t need any equipment or even much space to get in a quick and effective workout at home. Try my 10-minute workout to get your blood pumping or check out my HIIT exercises for beginners to get started.
