The 7 Biggest Fitness Trends in 2019

Fitness is a bit like fashion – it never stands still. The trends that saw us hitting the aerobics studio in dodgy brightly coloured lycra in the 80s have (thankfully)  been replaced over the decades by Spin, Zumba, Atkins, Ab Rollers, and a whole host of workout and diet fashions – some with more staying power than others. Over the past 13 years, ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal® (FIT– a US fitness journal – has conducted an annual survey of fitness professionals worldwide to see what’s in (and out)when it comes to fitness. The results for 2019 are in. Take a closer look at the top 7 spots, below.

#1 Wearable Tech

Riding high at the top of the charts is wearable tech, and it’s no surprise. Since the Fitbit hit our wrists, there has been an explosion in health and fitness tracking technology. By gamifying the fitness experience, you may feel more motivated and push yourself harder.

#2 Group Training

This is definitely a trend we can get on board with here at FitFusion PT. Group fitness provides support, structure, and can even add a little healthy competition to the mix. Join one of our fun group sessions to find out what all the fuss is about!

HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training has been high on the list for a while now and shows no sign of slipping down the charts. These short, sharp burst of exercise are not only great for your body, they mean you can fit a workout into your schedule – no matter how busy life gets.

#4 Fitness Programs For Older Adults

Fit doesn’t stop at 40, or even 50, 60, or 70. Staying healthy is a lifelong journey and more and more baby boomers are discovering the benefits of a regular workout routine. With new group classes springing up that are targeted at older fitness fans.

#5 Bodyweight Training

Sometimes all you need to work out well is yourself. The rise in popularity of home workout apps and streaming services has led to a spike in bodyweight workouts, and they can be incredibly effective and flexible. Plus, you can do them everywhere, which means there is never a good excuse to skip a session.
